If you want to lose weight and build muscle, you have to pay attention to your adrenal glands, and make sure that they are working properly.
When you are living in stress your adrenal glands produce very powerful chemicals that in the long term can begin to destroy your body. When you live in stress day in and day out, you are living on the outside, your energy is going out to deal with the outer world and not much is left for healing, building, repair, and weight loss.
Let’s first define what the adrenal glands are and what functions they perform in your body.
The adrenal glands are two small glands, the size of a walnut, that sit on top of your kidneys. These glands are controlled by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. Your hypothalamus is the internal keeper of balance in your body. It is constantly scanning the internal and external environment, in order to maintain homeostasis in the body. When it senses change, it sends signals to the pituitary, which then activates the adrenal glands via hormones.
Your adrenal glands have very important functions in the body, these are some of them:
- They produce sex hormones
- They control the availability of fuel in the body
- They control the sodium-potassium balance
- They control the metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates
- They produce cortisol, the most powerful anti inflammatory substance in the body.

The level at which those events affect your health will vary; some people are naturally more sensitive than others.
Adrenal Fatigue Solution
Regardless of the cause, it’s time to give your adrenal glands a break. The best thing to do right away is to eliminate or at least reduce your sources of stress. WAIT! . I know what you’re thinking…..that’s impossible! but it’s not, you just need to make a decision.
You can take all the natural supplements you want; ashwaganda, rhodiola, licorice root, adrenal glandulars, chaga mushrooms, etc… (Trust me, I’ve tried them all!) to help rebuild your adrenal glands, but you if you don’t work on reducing your stress sources, you’ll continue to deplete your adrenals to dangerous levels.
Don’t get me wrong, natural supplements do help, but the point in taking a supplement is to get on it, get better and get off it, not becoming dependent on it. in order to be able to heal and not have to take supplements for the rest of your life is to tackle the issue head on, and this requires determination, willpower and a real desire to be well.
How do I know this? well….because I experienced it first hand. 3 years ago I found out that I had severe adrenal fatigue. Doing normal tasks like going grocery shopping had become challenging. I became overly anxious, fearful, couldn’t sleep, I put on 30 pounds despite eating healthy, and I had no strength at all to work out. Taking natural supplements did give me a boost, but what really worked in the exercise I’m gonna show you further down.
When I work with a client with Adrenal Fatigue we work on diet, supplements, but more importantly I help my clients become clear of what behaviors, beliefs, habits, relationships, and aspects of their lifestyle have consumed their energy and kept them in a state of stress. Then we work on figuring out strategies to lower all sources of stress, so the adrenals can recover, and their body can restore proper balance.
Make a list of all the things that you know are NOT good for you right now; including drinking coffee, not taking time to make healthy meals, your in-laws, pushing too hard, telling yourself that you’re not good enough, etc. then list all the things that you love doing and that uplift your spirit , even if you haven’t done them in a long time.
Then commit to eliminating at least 3 things that are stressing you out right now; if you have to stop talking to someone because they stress you out, do it! As you work on eliminating those 3 things also commit to adding 3 things that fuel your soul like: painting, dancing, spending time with a loved one, walking in nature, etc.
You’ll be amazed at how quickly you start to feel better.
Adrenal Fatigue is not a problem with your Adrenal Glands, it’s the consequence of living in survival mode, moving too fast in life, living in high stress and not giving the body the chance to rest and repair.
You live in survival mode when you are a perfectionist, when you live in fear, when you take care of everyone else except you, when you push through long hours of work without proper sleep and rest; when you live obsessed with your body image and how much you eat, when you weigh yourself everyday and count calories.
When you live in stress you waste enormous amounts of energy in dealing with the outside world; while leaving little energy for repair, healing, intuition and connection to your divinity.
Stop living like a lion is chasing you 24/7, step back, and slow down with life. Your adrenal glands and your waistline will thank you.
